Liantang Port breaks records with over 20 million travelers by mid-October
According to big data monitoring, by Oct. 13, 2024, the Liantang Port in Luohu had recorded over 20 million inbound and outbound passengers, surpassing 1.5 times the total passenger volume for all of 2023. Additionally, the port handled 860,000 vehicle entries and exits, marking a 1.6-fold increase compared to the same period last year.
Since the beginning of 2024, the vibrant exchange between Shenzhen and Hong Kong has further boosted the "One-Hour Living Circle" of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). The number of tourist, educational, visit, and cycling teams passing through Liantang Port nearly doubled year on year, highlighting the port’s role in facilitating large-scale and fast-paced traffic flows. These trends are a vivid illustration of the GBA's development, characterized by smooth traffic, increased people-to-people interaction, and flourishing economic activities.
The daily average number of travelers passing through Liantang Port reached 70,000 in 2024, a 133% increase compared to 2023. The port's daily traffic exceeded 100,000 people four times, peaking at 3.5 times the port's designed capacity. Of the total passenger flow, 15.77 million were residents of Hong Kong and Macao, representing a 156% year-on-year increase and accounting for 79% of all traffic. Meanwhile, 4.1 million residents from the Chinese mainland traveled through the port, a 75% year-on-year increase.
