Milestone reached for the Shenzhen-Shenshan high-speed rail project
The Shenzhen-Shenshan high-speed railway project has achieved a significant milestone with the successful launch of the "Pingshan East No. 2" large-diameter shield-tunneling machine. Once completed and operational, this new rail line will reduce travel time between the Shenzhen-Shanwei Special Cooperation Zone and Shenzhen’s Nanshan district to just 30 minutes.
The Shenzhen-Shenshan railway line originates at Shenzhen's Xili Station and terminates at the Shenzhen-Shanwei Special Cooperation Zone's Shenshan Station. The construction period is set for five years, with an expected completion and opening date in 2027. Designed for speeds of up to 350 kilometers per hour, the main line will span 125.5 kilometers, with an impressive 92.6% of the route consisting of bridges and tunnels.
In total, eight shield-tunneling machines with a diameter of 14.33 meters will work simultaneously along the route, tasked with excavating 29.026 kilometers of tunnels. This constitutes the largest cluster of large-diameter shield tunnels in China.
Upon completion, the Shenzhen-Shenshan high-speed railway will significantly enhance regional connectivity, playing a crucial role in boosting the economic and social integration of the Shenzhen-Shanwei Special Cooperation Zone with Shenzhen’s dynamic urban landscape.
