Luohu releases measures to support film and television industry
On Friday, the 2024 Luohu Shenzhen-Hong Kong Cultural Month and Luohu Shenzhen-Hong Kong Film Culture Exhibition kicked off, with the release of the "Ten Measures to Support High-Quality Development of the Film and Television Industry in Luohu District". The event included the signing of intention cooperation agreements with three key film and television companies and the announcement of a series of film screenings.
From July 12 to August 4, Luohu will collaborate with film and television companies and institutions in Shenzhen and Hong Kong. More than ten cinemas and ten outdoor venues in the district will offer discounted tickets or free screenings. Events including a Jin Yong-themed illustration exhibition, a classic film poster exhibition, and a Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Macau film director exchange forum will be held.
Currently, the cultural industry is increasingly becoming a pillar of the national economy, with the film and television industry playing a crucial role in enhancing a city's cultural soft power and economic competitiveness.
The policies include a maximum reward of 1 million yuan for film and television companies newly included in statistics for the first time; a one-time support of 200,000 yuan for the establishment of micro-short drama review centers in Luohu; up to 100 million yuan in support for eligible film and television companies purchasing office space; and three-year rental subsidies of up to 30% for leasing office properties.
Companies that build and operate film-grade virtual production studios in Luohu will receive up to 1 million yuan in support. Enterprises meeting the requirements for constructing cultural and creative industry service platforms can receive up to 3 million yuan. Innovative projects using new technologies such as AIGC, ultra-high definition, virtual production, cloud computing, and blockchain can receive rewards of up to 1 million yuan.
Original film and animation works, as the copyright owner, main producer, or production company, can receive rewards of up to 2 million yuan based on box office revenue. Film and television works that win national-level permanent awards and receive special cultural industry development funds at the municipal level can receive rewards of up to 2 million yuan. Eligible horizontal network micro-short dramas can receive up to 1 million yuan per work for the first producer.
Thirty classic Hong Kong films will be screened in district cinemas and other venues, with ticket prices set at 29.9 yuan per ticket. The selection includes excellent adaptations of Jin Yong's novels such as "Princess Fragrance," "The Book and the Sword," "The Smiling, Proud Wanderer," and "Kung Fu Cult Master," along with the "Audio-Visual Jianghu: Calligraphy and Painting Martial Arts" themed film exhibition.
Other selected films include Hong Kong kung fu movies such as "Shaolin Temple" as well as Hong Kong classic comedies like "A Chinese Odyssey Part One: Pandora's Box," "A Chinese Odyssey Part Two: Cinderella," "The Three Smiles," "Flirting Scholar," and "All's Well, Ends Well."
Free Outdoor film screenings in ten subdistricts on the evenings of July 20, July 27, and August 3 will be launched. Selected films include outstanding Hong Kong films such as "Project Gutenberg" and "P Storm," which residents can watch for free.
From July 15 to August 4, the Dong Peixin Jin Yong Martial Arts Themed Illustration Exhibition will be held on the third floor of Luohu Book City. From July 12 to August 4, the Hong Kong Classic Film Poster Exhibition featuring themes such as Jin Yong's martial arts, classic martial arts, and classic comedies will be displayed in the lobby of the Shenzhen Tianhe City Huanying Cinema.
From July 22 to August 2, a film director exchange forum will be held, featuring themed sharing sessions and post-screening discussions with Hong Kong Film Critics Association Honorary President Ho Wai, Hong Kong comedy film director Clifton Ko of "All's Well, Ends Well," and kung fu film assistant director Siu Yeung-Ping of "Shaolin Temple."
