Mother of a hearing-impaired child in Luohu honored as a 'Good Person'
On April 18, the "China Good People List" for the first quarter of 2024 was released, along with an interaction event for national moral role models and exemplary individuals. The event unveiled the list of exemplary individuals in five categories: altruism, bravery, honesty, dedication to work, and filial piety.
Among the honorees, Wu Xueling, nominated by Luohu district, Shenzhen, was recognized as a "Good Person" for her contributions in the category of altruism. Wu Xueling not only raises a child with hearing impairment but also serves as a special need education teacher for children with disabilities. For two decades, she has dedicated herself to the rehabilitation training of hearing-impaired children, earning accolades such as the "Good Person of Guangdong."
In 2004, Wu Xueling established the Qingqing Speech Rehabilitation Service Center, a private non-profit organization named after her daughter. The center specializes in rehabilitation training and inclusive education for children with hearing impairments, speech disorders, autism, language developmental delays, and cerebral palsy. The center charges only the most basic fees to ensure its normal operation. It also extends free assistance or reduced fees to families in need and organizes fundraising and material collection activities to help these families afford rehabilitation treatment for their children.
Over the years, Wu Xueling has led her team to provide systematic and professional rehabilitation training for 1,800 children with hearing and speech impairments and other disabilities. Her efforts have facilitated the reintegration of numerous hearing-impaired children into the world of sound. Furthermore, she has raised over 3.5 million yuan in donations and gathered more than 10,000 pieces of assorted supplies, all directed towards subsidizing financially disadvantaged families with special needs children.
