Luohu receives national recognition for establishing a barrier-free zone
Luohu has garnered acclaim for its initiative to create China's first district-level barrier-free zone.
The establishment of a barrier-free district not only enhances the well-being of residents but also contributes to the overall civility of society. The Luohu district government has instituted standards and devised comprehensive plans for urban development, urban renewal, and the creation of a barrier-free environment. It is projected that by 2035, barrier-free facilities will encompass over 85% of Luohu.
To date, the district has upgraded more than 60 wheelchair ramps and addressed 7,000 sidewalk impediments, while also expanding accessible parking spaces. Additionally, various facilities, including bathrooms and signage in prominent locations such as Cuihu Culture and Sports Park, Xiangsilin Park, and Taojinshan Greenway, have undergone renovations to ensure accessibility.
The Luohu District Federation of Disabled People has transformed 42 households, providing them with accessible facilities to enhance their living standards. Since 2020, over 2,300 households with elderly residents have undergone home renovations to create a more accessible and safe living environment for older individuals.
In 2023, the district hosted a series of public awareness campaigns, including training sessions aimed at enhancing the skills of officials involved in the supervision and service of barrier-free facilities.
