Peking Opera show of Donghu Middle School won prize in Guangdong
Peking Opera “Mu Guiying Taking Command,” which is about how a girl became a general to protect her people from invaders during the Ming dynasty (1368-1644) and presented by the Donghu Middle School of Luohu, recently won first prize at an art performance competition for primary and middle school students in Luohu as well as the Golden Flower Award at an opera competition for children in Guangdong province.
Donghu Middle School is a national Peking Opera training base for children and one of the first batches of schools in Guangdong that have been recognized as schools for inheriting and spreading fine traditional Chinese culture.
In addition to its iconic Peking Opera club, the school has set up many other creative platforms, such as a Chinese shadow puppetry club, an orchestra, and a basketball team to promote the students’ all-around development. Many of the clubs have won honors and awards of various levels.
