Shenzhen witnesses travel boom during 8-day holiday
The eight-day Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holiday, which lasted from Sept. 28 to Oct. 6, has stimulated Shenzhen’s tourism, with the passenger flow hitting a record high.
The transportation hubs and ports in Shenzhen serviced a growing number of passengers during the holiday. To alleviate crowding and ensure smooth travel, Shenzhen’s transportation departments operated at full capacity. In the six days leading up to the holiday (Sept. 27 to Oct. 2), Shenzhen’s railways transported a total of 2.4 million passengers, an increase of 374,700 passengers or 18.35% compared to the same period in 2019.
According to Trip.com, a Chinese online travel agency, Shenzhen ranked as the 10th most popular domestic tourist destination and the ninth most popular “nearby tourist destination” during the holiday. Travel bookings to Shenzhen for the holiday grew by 133% year on year, with interprovincial bookings accounting for over 30% of the total, seeing a year-on-year surge of 202%.
Preliminary figures from the Shenzhen Tourism Association showed that during the holiday, domestic and outbound travel bookings made through local travel agencies surged. Some leading travel agencies reported revenue growth six times that of the same period last year.
During the holiday, the daily average consumption scale of service retail in China increased by 153% compared to the same period in 2019. Shenzhen ranked among the top five cities in terms of consumption scale, with a year-on-year growth of 62% in daily average consumption of service retail, demonstrating strong economic momentum.
Shenzhen launched nearly 200 cultural, sports, and tourism activities during the holiday, providing both local residents and visitors with diverse and enjoyable experiences.
Moreover, over 620 volunteers served tourists at major scenic spots and transportation hubs in the city, providing visitors with convenient services.
