Shenzhen 2024 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Youth Education Event kicks off
Recently, the 2024 Shenzhen Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Youth Country-Love Education event was successfully held in both Hong Kong and Macao. Through two main activities of painting and flying kites, the event allowed young people from Hong Kong and Macao to experience Chinese culture and patriotic education up close. Over 1,000 participants, including student representatives, service organizations, and association members from both regions, took part.
This year's activities combined online and offline experiences, enabling youths from the three regions to engage in study exchanges, field visits, and hands-on experiences. They gained a deeper understanding of China's traditional culture, history, and future, further strengthening their sense of national pride and patriotism.
On the event day, over 100 students, parents, and teachers from Hong Kong's Ching Cheuk Middle School created a 75-meter-long painting featuring landmarks from Shenzhen, Hong Kong, and Macao. They also flew a dragon-shaped kite adorned with Chinese elements. Mr. Chong Yuen Tung, Chairman of the Sai Kung District Association, shared that the kite, as a cultural emblem, embodies the richness of Chinese heritage.
At Macao’s Xinhua Night School, students, guided by intangible cultural heritage kite master Yu Hao, crafted and flew a large 75-meter kite. They inscribed their messages and wishes for a prosperous China on the kite, expressing their hopes for the nation's future.
Seeing their handmade dragon kites soar in the sky, the students and parents described the experience as both fascinating and enjoyable, calling it a memorable lesson in patriotism. Huang Haowei, a student representative from Macao’s Xinhua Night School, shared, "This profound patriotic education allowed us to witness the great changes in our country firsthand. Such immersive learning is far more impactful than textbooks, deepening our understanding of China's development and inspiring gratitude for our present life."
"The transmission of patriotic spirit is like a seed taking root in each participant's heart. It's more than just a cultural exchange; it’s a heartfelt journey," said a representative from the Luohu District Publicity Department. "Through diverse activities across regions, young people encounter different perspectives and lifestyles, fostering a stronger sense of national identity and belonging."
The main event of 2024 will take place on September 29 in Luohu, Shenzhen, where representatives from Shenzhen, Hong Kong, and Macao will gather to embark on a meaningful patriotic journey, including reading a patriotic pledge, painting a 75-meter-long scroll, flying 75-meter-long kites, and planting trees together.
Since its launch in May 2024, the event has engaged around 300,000 youths from the three regions through various formats, including themed lessons, patriotic summer camps, and exchange programs, enhancing their patriotic awareness and understanding.
