Shenzhen leads in number of robotics companies nationwide
In March of this year, Shenzhen set its sights on high-end, high-quality, and high-tech industries, designating artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and intelligent robotics as part of its strategic emerging and future industry clusters. This marked a significant step toward building a globally leading advanced manufacturing hub and an industry technology innovation center of global influence.
In recent years, Shenzhen has positioned AI as a strategic technology to drive the next wave of technological and industrial revolutions. Through a combination of policy guidance, resource allocation, ecosystem cultivation, and scenario-based empowerment, the city has accelerated the integration and development of the AI industry chain. Shenzhen is also developing high-standard national AI innovation application zones and experimental areas for the next generation of AI, positioning itself as a global leader in AI development.
As the AI wave continues to surge, humanoid robots are expected to penetrate various consumer sectors, emerging as a key application of AI. Public data shows that there are currently 741,700 robotics-related companies in China, with Guangdong province home to 141,500 of them. Shenzhen alone hosts 51,100 robotics companies, making it the city with the largest number of such companies in the country. The total industrial output value of Shenzhen's robotics sector exceeds 170 billion yuan, showcasing full-cycle innovation from tackling core technologies to expanding application scenarios.
In July, Shenzhen further advanced its AI agenda by releasing an action plan to accelerate the creation of a pioneer AI city. The plan includes a list of urban AI application scenarios, the establishment of a 100 billion yuan AI fund cluster, and efforts to promote AI applications across all sectors and industries citywide. These initiatives provide AI companies with more opportunities to explore and innovate, reinforcing Shenzhen's leadership in pioneering AI applications.
