China’s GBA economic scale tops global bay economies by end of 2023: report
According to a blue book on the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) released on Monday by the Guangdong Academy of Social Sciences and Social Sciences Academic Press, the GBA's economic scale ranked top among global peers at the end of 2023. The GBA surpassed New York (($1.8 trillion) and San Francisco (($1.38 trillion) Bay areas, achieving an economic scale exceeding $1.8 trillion, positioning it on par with the Tokyo Bay Area.
The economic scale of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) ranked top among global peers at the end of 2023, surpassing New York and San Francisco Bay areas, according to a blue book on the development of the GBA released on Monday. The blue book, jointly released by the Guangdong Academy of Social Sciences and Social Sciences Academic Press, noted that the GBA’s economic scale exceeded $1.8 trillion by the end of 2023, overtaking the New York Bay Area ($1.8 trillion) and San Francisco Bay Area while positioning it on par with the Tokyo Bay Area.
Wan Lu, an official from the Guangdong Academy of Social Sciences,emphasized the broad-ranging advancements made across the region over the past five years since the release of a development plan for the GBA. These developments span several critical areas, including technology, economy, social welfare, culture, ecology, and overall quality of life.
