Information technology facilitates customs clearance in Greater Bay Area
A total of 14 cargo transportation routes were opened by the end of this October thanks to the "Greater Bay Area one port clearance" pilot project starting in November 2020, according to statistics from Guangzhou Customs.
At the same time, the average storage period of goods has been shortened from seven days to two days, and the total import and export goods have reached 135,000 TEUs, saving the comprehensive cost of over 50 million yuan ($7.06 million) for import and export enterprises, customs said.
With the support of whole-process information, import and export enterprises can have a more accurate grasp of all links of cargo clearance, and arrange the shipping schedule and shipping space dynamically and scientifically. This results in reducing the time, expenses and other costs caused by changes in shipping schedules and space due to transportation factors, said officials of Guangzhou Customs.
Currently, the amount of cargo imported and exported through Guangzhou Customs under the "Greater Bay Area one port clearance" project is constantly rising. In the first 10 months of this year, customs handled 105,000 TEUs, a sharp increase of 343% year on year.
Since it was difficult for enterprises to estimate the time of cargo transportation and customs clearance in the past, they generally chose to ship the goods to Nansha Port of Guangzhou five to seven days in advance. However, Guangzhou Customs said that after the project is implemented, their cargo can be directly loaded onto international liners for export.
Generally, enterprises only need to arrange for the goods to arrive at Nansha two days before the liners arrive at the port, which greatly saves the time of waiting for international liners at Nansha Port.
